Nicholas P. Cheremisinoff, Ph.D. (Ch.E.) is Director of Clean Technologies and Pollution Prevention Projects at PERI (Princeton Energy Resources International, LLC, Rockville, MD). He has led hundreds of pollution prevention audits and demonstrations; training programs on modern process design practices and plant safety; environmental management and product quality programs; and site assessments and remediation plans for both public and private sector clients throughout the world. He frequently serves as expert witness on personal injury and third-party property damage litigations arising from environmental catastrophes. Dr. Cheremisinoff has contributed extensively to the literature of environmental and chemical engineering as author, co-author, or editor of 150 technical reference books, including Butterworth-Heinemann’s Handbook of Chemical Processing Equipment, and Green Profits.
He holds advanced degrees in chemical engineering from Clarkson College of Technology."

Not for the security professional.

The author of this book has a Ph.D. in organizational management. He is an "expert" in the security field; however, he has no clue. I bought this book for a master's level course in Security Admin and Management. The author took newspaper clippings and formed the book. He quotes himself throughout the book. Some of the challenges he has in the book are uninformed. Throughout the book he challenges government agencies and law enforcement. In the security field, the professional must partner with those organizations. I felt he discredited himself by page 100 and at that point, I found it difficult to read. Dalton may understand management; however, security management is more than telling people how many are needed to secure a location. There were some topics I didn't mind reading, but the majority of this book is rubbish.

When even the professor in the field talks this down it mght be a bad book

I had to read this book for an introduction to corporate security class in college. The first day of the course the professor, who had a doctorate in security systems and intelligence systems, said that due to how the course was written this book was considered mandatory. However, he mentioned how poorly it was written, the bias it was filled with since it seemed to cite only the author's own opinion and articles that the author had written, that some of the information presented was out of date even when the book was written. After that wonderful intro by the professor, who also said we weren't going to use it as a text for the class, just examining the book the writing is very dry. I have seen some governmental publications that had more pep than this book. It gives some good things to think about with respect towards what a corporate security officer would need to think about, but there was too much "I" in this book and not enough "I think and here is some support" or "Dr. So-So thinks that..." or similar spreading of the wealth with regards to what needed to be rethought towards corporate security systems and what the early issues were. It is also sort of interesting that this book was first published in 2003 and hasn't been updated or revised since then. There are other books that were published in the immediate years right after 2001 and 2005 and they were able to be revised and changed as technology changed, tactics changed and the threats changed. So grab this book if only for some reference, but I would think hard about using it as the basis for your security concepts or even what sort of corporate security concepts need to be considered in the last 12 years.

Solving your solder-reflow problems!

This excellent book on reflow soldering, by noted expert Doctor Ning-Cheng Lee, offers a unique approach that will be invaluable to anyone concerned with practical applications of microelectronics packaging.
Many books, including this one, tell you how reflow soldering should work. Dr. Lee's book goes beyond those basics, to tell you in great detail what most other books do not long dwell upon: what to do when reflow soldering does not work as expected. How to identify the problems. How to cure or compensate for problems to achieve good solder reflow interconnections. How to use the defects themselves to eliminate defects and to optimize your solder reflow process.
The first four chapters are a clear and complete exposition of reflow soldering and of surface mount assembly processes. They cover surface mount technology in general, solders and solder pastes, and the beginning-to-end steps in surface mount assembly. Nourishment for the technical mind ranges from the organic chemistry of fluxes to equations relating surface tension and solder spread. These four chapters provide an excellent summary of how reflow soldering is supposed to work.
The next seven chapters place a strong focus on trouble-shooting. Not on how things go when all is well, but on what things can go wrong, and how to fix, to compensate for, or to work around them when they do go wrong. The logical structure is clear: three chapters on reflow problems, titled "Before Reflow," "During Reflow," and "After Reflow." Three chapters on the special techniques and the potential problems encountered in solder bumping area array packages, in assembling and reworking BGA & CSP packages, and in reflowing solder-bumped flip chips. Each chapter first covers the required materials and processes, and then details all of the potential problems that might be encountered, and how best to solve them.
The capstone chapter describes how to optimize a reflow process through the proper analysis of the defect mechanisms encountered. This chapter requires 39 sub-sections to systematically step through identifying, analyzing, and correcting defects. It turns defect analysis into a powerful tool for optimizing the reflow process. Further discussion extends this optimization approach to other alloys and systems, and suggests that your creativity might carry it still further.
The final chapter is a now-obligatory look at the "lead-free" juggernaut bearing down on the industry, with some recognition that this juggernaut carries its own baggage of potential problems.

The Practical Science of Reflow Soldering

Few people have made more contributions to reflow soldering than Dr. Lee has. He has been a driving force in taking surface mount technology (SMT) from an art to a science. This book is a compilation of these successes with ample references to the important work of others. Those who work in this field will find this book indispensable in setting up and optimizing SMT assembly processes. In my opinion Dr. Lee's book is unequal in its value to practitioners in SMT.

Excellent Resource for SMT process

I wish I could have gotten this book earlier. It explains and demonstrates all of the known possible defects I have ever encountered in my professional years and their respective causes and solutions. I would recommend it to not only the SMT process engineers but all electronic engineers who need to make PCBAs.

INTERESTING BUT NOT A CLASSICAL TEXTBOOK

I'm an engineer involved in the design of large hydraulic structures.

The reference textbooks ( "the bible" ) for open channel hydraulics is still the old "Open Channel Hydraulics" by Ven Te Chow.

This book is interesting but lacks for charts, diagrams and/or formulas for designing the hydraulic structures.

I suggest to buy it only after Ven Te Chow or Henderson's classical textbooks.

However please consider it if you're involved in the design of stepped spillways.

Her research spans design management, product development, fashion retailing and strategic marketing. She has published 8 books and over 200 papers in these fields. Currently, her research is focused on design and innovation management in the supply chain and how innovation impacts on competitiveness in retailing. She is a Panel member of the Arts and Humanities Research Board, AHRB and the Graduate Pioneer Programme, Nesta, as well as acting as a Strategic Advisor to Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is CEO of Indigo Retail Solutions Ltd and has developed an e-learning retail management simulation package, which is being used by Universities and companies globally. Professor Bruce holds the International Chair in Design and Marketing at ICN, Ecole de Management, University of Nancy, France.

Head of Division of Marketing at the Caledonian Business School, Glasgow Caledonian University. She has extensive fashion retailing experience and has researched the area of store image and store positioning for both menswear and womenswear. Her PhD explored specialist fashion retailers store positioning strategies. Recent work includes investigating mature consumer behaviour in regard to fashion purchasing and Quick Response supply chain strategies. In recent years she has presented her research at a number of international conferences and by invitation, to University students in the US and Australia.

About the Author
Tony Rogers is the Executive Director of two British conference industry associations: the British Association of Conference Destinations (a post he has held since 1989), and the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (since 2000). He chairs the Research Working Group of the (UK) Business Tourism Partnership, and regularly writes articles on the conference industry for a range of industry publications.

Perfect for beginners... kinda outta date though

Although the authors are pretty much the best you would find out there when trying to expand your knowledge about the Global Meetings Industry, the book does require constant updates given the fact that the meetings industry is constantly evolving... the books information, especially that at Chapter 12 which mainly talks about future trends is COMPLETELY out of date and fails to show the actual future trends of the industry...

Nevertheless, if you are new to the industry or have just gotten started, and if you work at a DMO/DMC (Destination Marketing/Management Organization/Company), this is pretty much the best and most comprising book you would find out there!
