About the Author
As a TPM expert, Dennis has pioneered the integration of TPM with Lean and Six Sigma improvement processes as a lever for cross functional collaboration and high performance teamwork. Described by one senior international manager as a true 'Sensei of Change', he has supported many well-respected and award winning companies including 3M, Ford, General Motors, GE, IKEA, Heineken and Johnson Matthey across Europe, India, USA, China and Japan.

Professor Rich is a renowned academic and expert in productivity management and the application of lean enterprise methods. With Professor Dan Jones, he was a founding member of the Lean Enterprise Research Centre in 1994 and he now directs CLEAR - the Centre for Lean Enterprise Application and Research. Nick was trained by Toyota in Japan during the 1990s whilst at Cardiff Business School, he has co-authored several government reports, holds a number of honorary Professorships at UK and international Universities, and is highly regarded as an academic who can translate his research into practice. His research concerns the design and improvement of Highly Reliable Organisations and he spends his time split between manufacturing, service, and healthcare sectors.

Superb for Metalurgists...

However, it is not the best source book for mechanical design. (This refers to the seventh edition) As a design engineer, I find it most useful when finding information on CTE's and other thermal properties, and also to get a good basic understanding of a class of materials. For straight forward stress analysis, resources like MIL-HDBK-5 and the ASM References often prove more useful. If you are doing a lot of thermal analysis, or are often looking to apply exotic materials to design problems, you'll find yourself reaching for Smithells on a regular basis.

The company is involved in the development of PC-based well simulation and management software support models and programs in reservoir and production engineering. He has more than 20 years of international and domestic experience in reservoir engineering reservoir simulation development and applications, well testing, water flooding, EOR techniques, reservoir studies and operations. Mr. Chaudhry formally worked as a Senior Reservoir Engineering Advisor an Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer of Pertamina, the state Owned Oil Company of Indonesia. He also worked as Senior Reservoir Engineer with Core Lab Inc. - now Western Atlas in Reservoir Simulation Application Group in Dallas. He has started his career in the oil industry with Reservoir PVT & EOR Lab Inc. (subsidiaries of Core Lab Inc.) in Houston, Texas, as a Research Associate. Her holds MS degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering both from the University of Pittsburgh, PA.

Best book for Reservoir Engineers

This book is very well written and would be a very useful on the shelf of Reservoir engineers who want to have quick look at the methods to do well tests on the available well pressure data. I found the explanations for the tests to be short, but then they are precise! You can use them to understand the subject pretty easily if you have a basic understanding.

I'd not recommend this for a novice. You should have knowledge of reservoir engineering subject and maths (differential equations) if you want to purchase this book and use it. It is on the expensive side too.

As for myself, i'd use this book as an when required as its difficult to remember all the tests and how they should be used (i'd not use the calculations myself - but its good to have).

A nice purchase personally.

The bible for technicians in the field

I am a mines and SCR rig electrician. I have actually attended Malcolms seminar related to the subject matter and, in fact, i have 3 copies of the book; that's how often i use it.

The information will open up the modern world of AC drives for the novice. For those applying the technology in the field such as, in mines, i thoroughly recommend it.

There are useful appendices in areas that compliment the knowledge required in heavy industry (the Gray scale in rotary encoders) areas of expertise that we must know and i can assure you that i have not been able to find that information anywhere else, or so tactfully presented.

I have assisted electrical engineers to understand the subject through the knowledge that this manual provides the technician.

Malcolm is definitely "the man" and his book is an absolute essential item - the bible - for heavy industrial electricians.

When I bought my Kindle I had a hard time getting the wife to buy off on a $400 e-book reader. It really ticked me off, so wait till she sees the bill for the $41,000 book I just bought.

Overall, the book is well worth the money. I am meeting up with Lex Luthor for drinks at the Palms to discuss Chapter 14 and our plans to use a Variable Speed Drive to drill to the earth's core to release millions of cubic feet of noxious gases into the atmosphere to blackmail the US into paying us millions...I mean billions of dollars.

About the Author
Nihal Kularatna is the author of Power Electronics Design Handbook. He is an electronics engineer with over 30 years of experience in professional and research environments. He is a Fellow of the IEE (London), a Senior Member of IEEE (USA) and an honors graduate from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Presently, he is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering, the University of Waikato, New Zealand. He worked at the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) in Sri Lanka as a Research and Development Engineer until 1990 when he reached Principal Researcher Engineer status. He was then appointed as CEO of ACCIMT in 2000. From 2002 to 2005 he was a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Auckland. He is currently active in research in transient propagation and power conditioning area in power electronics, embedded processing applications for power electronics, and smart sensor systems. He has authored five books and is currently working on his sixth. His hobby is gardening cacti and succulents.

Good text, but requires prior knowledge

I found this text to be well-written and very thorough at describing certain biochemical and physiological processes of the eye. However, even though each chapter has basic introductory information about each topic (enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids, etc), this should not be used in a setting in which students have not had prior coursework in biochem. If this is the case, another more detailed textbook should be used in conjunction.
